Devotional: I lift up my soul

This inspiring devotional by Dr. Charles Stanley, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia is a wonderful way to start your day. Wake up to a new day with the Lord. In Psalm 143.8. David wrote, "Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I trust in You; teach me the way in which I should walk; for to You I lift up my soul". David saw the necessity of seeking God to direct his steps. He looked to God for guidance for the needs of each day. This book gives you a scripture reading and key verse for the day, for instance, Joshua 1:9, Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Outlive your life

"None of us can help everyone. But all of us can help someone." This book is a call to action in our everyday lives. It is easy to get overwhelmed when we look at the "big picture". Poverty, disease, and all the hopelessness in the world leave us very fatigued. but Max Lucado encourages us to step out of our comfort zone and do something small that will make a difference in someone's life. Once we start doing small things, we'll see opportunities for the bigger ones. I was forced to examine my own life and how I look at others. A very thoughtful, insightful book and the royalties are being sent to World Vision. I think you would benefit from reading this book.

Embracing your second calling

This book will help you re-evaluate what is important in the second half of your life. Do you ever wonder if the best of life is in the past? Depressed by her 50th birthday, Dale Hanson Bourke uses the story of Naomi from the Book of Ruth to teach lessons on leaving the past behind. When the world says women are past their prime we can find our second calling. God wants to redeem the pain and misery in our first half and give us a passion and a purpose for living. This book will impact you on many levels. Don't waste your life, open your eyes to the possibilities God has in store for you. When the kids are grown, does life end? No! Stop living in the past, embrace the future God has waiting for you. This book was a pleasant surprise.

Diamond Rio

Six talented musicians make up the band Diamond Rio. The individual stories,
good times and bad of these six friends make up the book"Beautiful Mess".
I have always loved their music with its layered harmonies and tender lyrics.
Each chapter gives us insight into the background of members Marty Roe, Dan Truman, Jimmy
Olander, Brian Prout, Gene Johnson and Dana Williams and how they stayed together all these years. Details of their personal joys, trials and troubles emerge from six different perspectives.
This book is an inside scoop on how tough the music industry can be. I fell in love with this band in the nineties and found this book very interesting.
